Victory for Lenton in Inaugural Women's Football Tournament

Last Monday saw the first ever Jewish women’s football tournament on campus, as teams from Birmingham, Leeds and Nottingham all played in a charity tournament raising money for GIFT, a nationwide charity which supports Jewish families. The launch of a new;y formed Jewish women’s football movement made an event like this possible by bringing together the clubs and partnering with Jewish Camps USA(JCUSA) who sponsored the tournament. Nottingham’s Jsoc team, the Lenton Orient Ladies, emerged victorious on the day, winning both games in their first ever competitive tournament. Results for the day were as follows:

Birmingham 1-0 Leeds

Nottingham 2-1 Birmingham

Nottingham 1-0 Leeds

I am proud to manage the Maccabi Selly Women's football team, the largest and first-ever Jewish women's university football team. We have around 25 girls on our team, and we have been actively running sessions for over a year.

On Monday, we hosted the first Inter-University Jewish Women's Football tournament, competing against the recently established Nottingham Jsoc team and Leeds Jsoc team respectively. It was a great success, with many supporters coming to watch, and our girls performed exceptionally well.

It's incredible to see the progress of our team members and the fantastic environment we have created for Jewish girls to develop their football skills, build lasting friendships, and be a part of something special.

Last Monday, Nottingham’s first ever Jsoc women's football team, the Lenton Orient Ladies, set off to Birmingham for their first competitive tournament. The day would not have been possible with our sponsors Jewish Camps USA and Ort.

We started with some team photos, meeting the other teams from Birmingham and Leeds respectively, and warming up with our coaches. The Leeds team kicked off the day with their game against Birmingham, won by Birmingham. Nottingham then played against Birmingham and Leeds, winning both games.

Our coaches and teammates were all so proud of one another, especially considering it was our first ever inter-Jsoc competitive tournament. Birmingham were so accommodating to the other teams providing support, snacks, and a trophy for the winners. Overall it was a really enjoyable, exhilarating, and proud experience for Lenton Orient Ladies and has excited the team for many more tournaments.

It’s been amazing to be a part of the new Hapoel Hyde Park women’s team and I’m thankful for the opportunity to be one of the core members of the squad. Since our first game in November against the Birmingham Jsoc women’s team, we have made unbelievable progress, both in training sessions and games. We’ve had an increase in players joining us at training sessions, beginning with 6 players in October to 14 at our most recent training session.

Last week, we took part in the first ever Jewish women’s football tournament, playing against teams from Nottingham and Birmingham respectively. Once we arrived in Birmingham, we met the other teams and started on some extra drills and warm-ups to get us ready for the day ahead. Throughout the day, we showed our drive, determination, and how far we have come as a team despite the results on the day. We are so proud of all our incredible players and we can’t wait for more tournaments in the future.
