In partnership with the Union of Jewish Students (UJS), Maccabi GB has recently launched the second year of the 'Student Sport' project. This exciting initiative empowers students on campuses across the UK to take their love for sports to the next level as part of their Jewish societies. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just looking for a fun way to stay active and connect with your friends, 'Student Sport' has something for everyone. The initiative, established in September of last year, was driven by the vision of reshaping the perception of sports within the Jewish student community. Its primary goal was to create greater inclusivity and opportunities. Thanks to the dedication and support of volunteer students, this initiative served as a pivotal platform for students to organise and host sporting events. In its inaugural year, over 200 students took part and established ten affiliated teams; many of these students would not have otherwise engaged with their university JSoc.

The 2023/24 academic year marks the dawn of a new era for Jewish students passionate about sports. It's not just about playing games; it's about building connections, creating lasting memories, and celebrating your Jewish identity through sports. 'Student Sport' provides the platform for you to excel and make your mark on the university sports scene.

In May, an event, known as the "Battle of the Midlands" took place as Nottingham JSoc journeyed to Birmingham to compete in netball and football matches, drawing the participation of over 100 students. In the upcoming academic year, 'Student Sport' is gearing up to host even more innovative events like this. The initiative is not only aiming to expand our sports offerings catering to a broader range of sporting interests, but it is designed to keep more students actively engaged during their university journey while providing them with a platform for deeper involvement with sport.

'Student Sport' is more than just games and victories. It's about belonging to a community that shares your interests and values. It's about strengthening your Jewish identity while pursuing your passion for sports. It's about the sense of pride that comes with representing your university and your Jewish heritage on the field.

So, if you're a student with a passion for sports, don't miss out and visit maccabigb.org/studentsport to find out more and register your interest today. Join us in making 2023/24 a year to remember, ‘Student Sport' is not just about the game; it's about making university life truly unforgettable
